Diwali Celebration November 2015
Diwali or Deepawali is the festival of lights, and is the one festival that unites the whole of India. It is celebrated to commemorate the homecoming of Lord Rama, his wife Sita, and brother Lakshmana after spending 14 years in exile. The citizens of Ayodhya, joyous to have their king back home, welcomed Lord Rama back with hearts of joy by lighting their homes and streets with lamps, and decorating the city with flowers. People try to finish their ongoing work, as Deepawali marks the end of the year and aims at starting with new work in the New Year.
When it comes to companies, they pay off all debts and new account books are blessed before the New Year, as it is time for new beginnings. For the eve of Diwali, homemakers and shopkeepers clean their homes and shops and decorate their places of dwellings and businesses, and people buy new dresses and clothing – all to celebrate the beginning of a new year and to welcome Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity.
The occasion being auspicious, the people drive away the dark forces by decorating their homes and streets with lamps, performing puja at their homes, offering sweets to neighbors, friends and relatives. Forgetting differences, people greet and embrace each other.
Diwali is celebrated all over India, regardless of religion or economic background, to welcome light into life. As light is always associated with hope for the future, the festival celebrates the beginning of a New Year and the possibilities it brings.
Diwali is a 5-10 day celebration, with festivities beginning the eve of Diwali.
The Shala will celebrate The Festival of Lights with our New Year Traditional Puja and setting of intentions.
Diana reminds us that a New Year celebration is a good time to get out of autopilot, out of our daily life business, pause, reflect on the past year, and set intentions for the upcoming year.
Get your last year journals out to see what intentions and goals you had a year ago. How did this year play out? What adventures did you have? You can also dedicate a page in your journal to the things you are grateful for. Practice reflection, practice gratitude! Practice, practice... so they will become a part of your life.
Another good practice in the preparation for the New Year is to complete any unfinished business in our house, in your job, in your relationships.
In celebration of the New Year on Wednesday bring flowers into your house, light candles, buy something new for yourself, get our your journal, and write down what intentions you have for the year to come, for this new chapter in your life!!"The best way to predict the future is to invent it." ~ Alan Kay
